WELCOME TO THE SITE DESIGNED TO TAKE BACK OUR MIDLAND GOVERNMENT AND TRULY PRESERVE OUR MIDLAND HERITAGE, STOP THE ENERGY TOWER, AND PREVENT AN OVERCROWDED URBAN LIFESTYLE DOWNTOWN!
REMEMBER: GOVERNMENT SHOULD FEAR ITS PEOPLE.
PEOPLE SHOULD NOT FEAR THEIR GOVERNMENT.
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny" Thomas Jefferson
exists to serve us! Not for us to ignore them and allow them to push their commercial and political gains by voting against us. Don't see this? Ask the residents north of Blue Ridge or the Midland Dr. residents where the city tried to force the Dollar General Store on them against their will. How about the energy tower funding of 9/17/2013, two weeks after the mayor implied it would not be voted on until the new council took office in 2014?
"Our loyalty lies with little taxpayers, not big spenders. What our critics really believe is that those in Washington know better how to spend your money than you, the people, do. But we're not going to let them do it, period."- Ronald Reagan
Sounds just like our Midland City Council, does it not? ERP is the "big spender" that they are trying to please by helping him build offensive tower downtown against our will. This will feed some on the council and It will also feed the tax coffers for their spending and not reduction of our property taxes (TIRZ Funding).
"You get the government that you ignore." Jason Moore

1. The 7/8/2014 City Council Meeting in which the TIRZ funding and Term Sheet were terminated can be seen at
Thanks to Mike Strange for posting these videos for us!
Please note the comments of Mark Wellen former chairman of the downtown TIRZ funding that occurs at 40 minutes into the video.
Mark Wellen, "Everybody is for development all over Midland".
Spencer Robnette, "Not everybody."
Mark Wellen, "...Maybe some people are ready for City of Midland to die".
Really? I am hearing and meeting people who are upset because of what Midland is becoming and even leaving Midland. I have neighbors who are leaving Midland. When I asked "why?" they said they see it declining because of this BOOM! The "dying" of Midland is due to the loss of our low crime and warm and friendly atmosphere not because development was not pursued enough!!!
Midland's quality-of-life is being destroyed by greed, self-inflamed attitudes, and crime that has been not only allowed but PROMOTED by a city government that apparently sees all of the intrinsic values of Midland and its people as an acceptable sacrifice so long as commerce is being promoted!
Mr. Wellen: Spencer is right. Not EVERYONE wants to see development increase all over Midland. What motivates people like you to say that? Do you have no care at all for the fact that the evening news has become overwhelmed with unpleasant issues such as human trafficking, prostitution, murder, drugs, and deadly traffic accidents? None of what is happening matches a "Christian" community. Greed, obsession with money and commerce, and promotion of same that also promotes the crimes listed above a far from good values even if one is not Christian. Are all of these things acceptable to people like you for you call "progress"?
There are still Texas towns out there that working to keep their town the community that it was and not advertise it like a market commodity or prostitute. Those are people who do not want to see their community "die" like people like you obviously do. Mr. Wellen, excessive growth is not what makes life good. Money and commerce are necessary tools but NOT what makes life good!
Stop trying to sell the people on the idea that development and downtown "revitalization" is necessary to make Midland good. Midland already was good! The city's job is to take care of its CITIZENS not to make it appealing to NON-CITIZENS and make money for developers!!!
Joel T. Rogers
2. 6/24/2014 City Council Meeting with Energy Related Properties:
Note the initial presentation by Wendell Brown (See Conflict of Interest to see how Wendell Brown has been tied into so many of these change issues here in Midland)
in which we learn that he (Wexford Capital and ERP) has over 1 million
square feet of buildings downtown and pay the most taxes. So much of
what is said is always about money and pride.
Note their new developer blows off Public-Private Partnerships (P3's) by
saying that P3's have been around a long time as if to tell us just
ignore what people are criticizing about P3's. P3's are proven on this
webpage to be a form of corruption. Around for a long time? Yes. So
has prostitution. That does not make P3's a good thing because they
have existed for a long time.
I encourage you check this out. MD
3. The Hike & Bike Master Plan of Midland does not fit our way-of-life, but is apparently designed to attract young people who expect amenities you'd find in Dallas or Austin.
The 5/19/2014 Hike and Bike Trail meeting can be viewed at the following YouTube site:
To me the most important part was at 12:30 minutes in which he begins talking about “If you think about the street you live on …..so what if you could take that street and do some things to it to make it so that there is very little high-speed traffic on it ? Now most of us where we live on streets in a neighborhood even though it does not need to be because there are only a few of us that live on that street that are driving down it…those streets tend to be pretty wide. So what do we do to counter that that makes that street a little bit slower so yes when I’m coming it’s not my absolute right to drive 30 mph past my neighbors? … You’ll get home. But then also do some things maybe at the areas where that street connects to busier streets so it makes a little bit tighter there so when you go through that you have to slow down. All it is, is trying to slow that traffic down so that you ride or walk and feel a little bit more comfortable on it.”
You must be kidding me! You are saying that we don’t need our wide streets? You want to PURPOSEFULLY do something to a street intersection to SLOW IT DOWN WHEN WE HAVE BEEN SUFFERING TRAFFIC PROBLEMS FOR 5-6 YEARS?
Why did the city hire this company for this liberal garbage. Is this not just another attack on OUR enjoyment of our city so that urbanites can enjoy it?
13:50 “So when I talk about it I know some people say, ‘Wait a minute. What are you doing to my neighborhood my street. But again if you live in a street that you want ot be quieter and slower this will help you get that.’”. This comment is just like Councilman Love III’s comment about the airport Dev. Corp. in which he states that some people will not want this much growth. It’s a put off to try and get people to NOT OPPOSE the city agenda.
At about 15:30 note that their new idea is Buffered Bike Lanes which they make wider. If they make it wider will that not have to diminish the roads that we drive?
Very interesting he wants to make bike lanes wider but slow down our intersections above because our streets are too wide.
Not at 16:50 he shows a road that is ½ bike land and ½ car lane. Is the idea to reduce our roads to one lane in some places for bicyclists?
Note the following comment from David Ham the owner of Peyton's Bikes out of the 05/20/2014 MRT about these bike trails:
“Midland is a very conservative town. But now we’re seeing young
people who expect amenities you’d find in Dallas or Austin. If we are
going to keep them here, we have to provide all the things we want to
-- David Ham, owner of Peyton’s Bikes
Mr. Ham: Why do we need to keep them? As you said, we are conservative. Do we give up what we are for business? What is more important: business or our conservative nature so that we do not become a community overrun by liberals and liberal attitudes? Being conservative is important to retaining our Constitution nationwide and here in Texas. With this massive influx of people because of this boom, is it much more important to remain conservative than give into commerce? There is no amount of money that will fix the negative communist issues brought in by liberals.
Bicycling is great exercise but why ruin our already crowded roads and streets to attract 'young people who expect amenities you'd find in Dallas or Austin"? Why pay $20K+ per mile to have a white line painted on the side of a street that will do nothing to prevent a vehicle and bicycle collision? If young people like it here then stay. If not leave. WHY ARE WE EXPECTED ACCEPT SOCIAL ENGINEERING OF A CITY WE HAVE LOVED FOR YEARS FOR THIS BOOM? DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE OF SOUND LIKE IT IS SERVING THE CITIZENS OF MIDLAND? IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IDEA IS SERVING NON-MIDLANDERS AND PEOPLE OBSESSED WITH MONEY MORE THAN HAVING A GREAT COMMUNITY!
The following is the link to the MRT article on this Hike & Bike Trail meeting.
4. DEVELOPER APPEARS TO WANT MIDLAND TO VOID ITS SOVEREIGN RIGHT OF
PROTECTION TO ALLOW DEVELOPER TO SUE CITY SHOULD ANYTHING GO WRONG !
Term Sheet Article 4b. NOTE:
Yes, the Term Sheet has been terminate, BUT, the original Term Sheet
had OUR city giving up its sovereign right to be sued to benefit this
ERP developer and the $5 Billion hedge fund, Wexford Capital. WILL THEY
DO IT AGAIN IN THE NEW AGREEMENT????!!!! Why would our city lower our city sovereignty to benefit this developer?
Unrecognized Guid format."The City agrees to use its best efforts to support and obtain passage of a validation act in the 2015 Texas legislative session that includes a legislative waiver of the City’s sovereign or governmental immunity from suit with respect all City agreements with the Developer including the City’s funding and tax reimbursement obligations to Developer under this Term Sheet, as well as to any related obligations under the TIRZ economic development agreement. The City also agrees to use best efforts to cause other jurisdictions participating in TIRZ to support and obtain passage of a validation act in the 2015 Texas legislative session that includes legislative waivers of their respective sovereign or governmental immunity from suit for their funding and tax reimbursement obligations under the TIRZ economic development agreement."
IF THIS IS SUCH A GREAT PROJECT TO BE THE "ICON" OF MIDLAND AND TO CREATE A "VIBRANT" COMMUNITY....WHY DOES THE ENTITLED DEVELOPER ASK FOR THIS BEFORE THE PROJECT HAS EVEN BEGUN?
WHY WOULD OUR CITY GOVERNMENT EVEN THINK ABOUT SIGNING SUCH AN AGREEMENT, WHICH THEY DID?
HOW MUCH INFLUENCE DOES THIS DEVELOPER HAVE OVER OUR GOVERNMENT?
What are the issues of Midland? Traffic, crime, a secret deal made by the city government for the Energy Tower, bad planning & zoning against citizens, and a city government that seems obsessed with commercialism and money but shows little interest in our quality-of-life. This last issue alone is leading to a bloated government that is becoming too big for us to retain control of. This has been a delightful place to live with endearing qualities. With this much excessive change we are losing that and the city has planned more change in their Midland Smart Downtown Plan and Master Plan.
Summary of What This Website is About This article gives a synopsis of the issues and purposes of this website. It is 1 page long. In my opinion our community is a precious and unique place that you cannot find just anywhere. It is critical that we protect what we love or it will be gone forever in a few years. If our city government wants to do this for the "youth", then what effects will increased prostitution, drugs, gangs, and human trafficking have upon them? What effects will a downtown urban center built on vanity and always known as an area of immorality have on the youth? The detailed issues will be discussed in the Content items below. This summary is designed to express why what we have in Midland is special and why we need to expose and take back control of our city government's agenda to change Midland into something that we have never been.
TERM SHEET (SEPARATE FROM PSA BUT APPEARS TO BE SETUP FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT. CONTAINS ISSUES THAT WERE NOT REVEALED TO US BEFORE!) THIS NEW DOC CONTAINS AGREEMENT, SIGNED, THAT APPEARS TO SAY THAT 3 OTHER TIRZ FUNDS WILL HELP DEVELOPER AND THAT CITY AND TIRZ ORGANIZATIONS WILL WORK TO REMOVE CITY SOVEREIGNTY RIGHT OF CREATING A LAW SUIT AGAINST DEVELOPER.
Midland Texas and the Ill Effects of Urban Living
This article ties together almost all of the issues we see here in Midland from our traffic and crime problems to the fact and proof that our city government is pushing for major change of Midland. Why does our city government wish to sacrifice the endearing qualities of this unique and special town for commerce? There are numerous urls for you to link to, to read the articles for yourself. Not all of these articles are against urban living they simply point out the issues and some offer solutions; however, is it not better to prevent these negative effects on our community to begin with rather than creating them?
Conflicts of Interest You will benefit from reading this because you will see that our city government is hiding the truth about their dealings with this tower and trying to keep us at bay so we do not oppose them.
This site has the pdf of all the emails sent to this effort requested under the first Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). We have received another FOIA but have not had time to review the 1600+ pages. It is unlikely that the pdf will fit into the memory of the site so we will have to pick the issues and summarize. Some of these emails show that there are conflicts of interest for Wes Perry and Wendell "Scooter" Brown of Wexford Capital that is funding the Energy Tower.
Contradictions? This article will list another set of FOIA emails that give evidence that the comments we received from city leaders regarding the "Memo of Understanding" and other issues do not add up.
MRT States Some Agreement with What This Website Has Stated The 12/30/2013 MRT wrote its own editorial regarding the Tower and its issues at the end of 2013. These include the facts that the city has not offered a public forum to discuss the tower (evidence the city is hiding the deal and knows that we oppose it-my comment), that the city voted on the TIRZ and MDC funding to show that the "citizens" supported the tower to help ERP get tenants, this early vote diminished the issue from the November election, and will Morales be any different from the previous administration on this deal. I have simply posted the short article for your review at this link to see the evidence.
Why Energy Tower is a bad idea
There are 3 major reasons why the Energy Tower is bad for Midland: 1) It is driven by a public-private collaboration between our city government and ERP over which there are many concerns by the people and a number of issues from city leaders that show they are trying to hide the details; 2) there will be horrible traffic issues created not only downtown but on all the arteries feeding downtown, which will fill the areas around many neighborhoods with traffic; 3) The tower will likely bring much cultural change to downtown that is contrary to our Midland way-of-life, which is known as social engineering and the "leaders" even admit it. However there is a deeper issue involved. The Downtown Revitalization pushed by our city government under their Midland Smart Downtown Plan.
Energy Tower Details This contains many examples of what is wrong with the Energy Tower including many citations from the media. These articles include evidence that the tower is about vanity, greed, and social engineering our town into a cosmopolitan area not about preserving our heritage or traditions.
Energy Tower emails (Acquired under Freedom of Information Act) Click on this link below to see al of the City of Midland emails sent to us regarding the Energy Tower under the Freedom of Information Act. This link will be referred to in other articles also. ERP_documents_and_emails.pdf
The Midland Smart Downtown Plan, also available at the URL above, contains the "Big Bang Scenario" (Pg. 36) that lists a future project exactly like this proposed tower downtown and exactly at Centennial Plaza. Note that the city has created a new website and the url for the Downtown Plan and Master Plans have changed. MidlandSmartDowntownPlan.pdf
The Master Plan is very much about promoting commerce in Midland and making Midland a cosmopolitan area with little that I have found about preserving our traditions and quality-of-life. It specifically endorses increased downtown population and living (Objective D-1.3).
An interesting contradiction is in their mission statement found on pg. 86, "Midland will be the region's premier community for family's and business. Then the very first goal that they promote is Objective A-1 (pg. 86) "Continue proactive planning and development related to the La Entrada corridor". This is the NAFTA road on IH-20. The Sheriff has stated that these NAFTA roads will be a real problem for gangs, drugs, and human trafficking as Midland grows. Why does our city promote a North American Union highway that will certainly cause more crime in Midland, immediately after starting that "families" are one of their 2 key issues? How can families be better with this level of crime? What sounds more important to them: families or business?
Create the Problem that Leads to the Desired Solution? (Hegelian Dialectic)
Are the problems we see in our world today purposely done in order to create a solution that takes away more of our rights? Are we having this same problem here in Midland since our city government has failed to solve our growth problems after 5-6 years in spite of their aiding the generation of these problems by promoting Midland as a commodity?
Public Private Collaboration (P3's) One major issue with the Energy Tower is the fact that it is a public-private collaboration aka public-private partnership (P3). When government is making deals with a special interest group and their are millions of dollars involved, who will they vote for: Us or their business partner?
Federal Reserve Example of P3's Probably the worst P3 to have ever been created in America is the Federal Reserve, a private bank that controls our country's money. See this ancillary article to "Public-Private Collaboration" regarding P3's as an example of why P3's are very dangerous.
Trans-Texas Corridor Example of P3's
See this article regarding how the Trans-Texas Corridor is a P3 that is trying to give our Texas land away to a foreign company as a monopoly while taking from us under eminent domain.
Capitalism can be corrupted and abused like anything else in the world. Do not take someone's comment about how a project is "capitalism" without looking into it. Government partnerships with business are not free-market capitalism. The energy tower is just that and appears to be a move toward monopolistic control over our downtown area.
ZONING ISSUES Midland Zoning Issues
This portion of webpage discusses how the city government has forced zoning issues on its constituents against their will in order to appeal to developers. Do we have a housing shortage or a population crisis? If you want 10's of thousands more customers for your retail business or employees you probably think of it as a housing shortage. If you love the endearing qualities of the Midland that we have loved, you likely see that developers and business is being served and not the average Midlander. It is important to understand that this much change for vanity and greed are NOT endearing qualities or intrinsic values. Growing one's business is great but what gives the city government the right to take advantage of a boom with approximately 23 million Americans unemployed during a drought to transform our city into something to attract as many as possible? What gives the city the right to change Midland into a 24/7 business area with constant stress and traffic and crime against the will of the core of Midland and against the traditions of Midland living?
HIKE AND BIKE TRAIL THREAT!
The Hike & Bike Master Plan of Midland does not fit our way-of-life
is great exercise but why ruin our already crowded roads and streets to
attract 'young people who expect amenities you'd find in Dallas or
Austin"? (See David Ham comments in 05/19/2014 MRT http://www.mrt.com/top_stories/article_58fd330c-dfff-11e3-b2cb-001a4bcf887a.html ). Why pay $20K+ per mile to have a white line painted on the
side of a street that will do nothing to prevent a vehicle and bicycle
collision? If young people like it here then stay. If not leave.
Could we not build hike and bike trails out away from streets on land, allowing them to cross some streets but not run down them? And do this after the city has fixed our first responder, teacher, water, traffic, and crime problems?
THE FUTURE OF MIDLAND
Articles About the Potential Future of Midland
This portion of the webpage includes crime, traffic, and social issues affecting Midland and examines how our city government is not protecting Midland from these changes but are promoting them so that they can make Midland appealing to a totally different group of people: urbanites, non-Texans, big business.
This youtube video is a California man
giving the positive aspects of Texas living he has seen when visiting
and contrasts it with the negative effects of California living. This
is the very issue we are facing our city of Midland.
